ORIGINAL ANNOUNCEMENT – JULY 26, 2025
Due to the delayed response from the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) on funding, SCSEP participants in Iowa, Nebraska, and select parts of Illinois will be placed on furlough starting August 1, 2025, until further notice.
Our team is closely monitoring the situation and remains hopeful that funding will be announced soon. If the USDOL issues a funding notice before August 1, we will reach out to you right away with next steps.
In the meantime, here are a few key details to help you prepare:
Final Paycheck: Participants will receive their final paycheck on August 8, 2025, covering the pay period from July 20, 2025 through July 31, 2025.
Unemployment Benefits: Because SCSEP is a federally funded training program, participants are not eligible for unemployment insurance.
Training Site Attendance: Per federal regulations, participants may not report to their host agency for any reason during the furlough—including on a volunteer basis.
Training During Furlough: Participants will not be compensated for any training, classes, or activities completed during the furlough period.
We understand the uncertainty this may cause and are committed to supporting you through it. If and when the program resumes, we will work with each host agency and participant to explore the possibility of making up missed hours—provided that the host agency can accommodate the additional hours and the participant is not already at their maximum training hours.
We recognize the difficulties this pause in program funding creates. We encourage participants to engage with our team to explore full and part-time employment opportunities as this moment presents an important opportunity to help older workers achieve greater financial stability in the face of ongoing uncertainty.
Thank you for your continued commitment and resilience. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your Career Coach or SCSEP Contact at National Able Network if you have questions or need support.
