The Engineer Who Never Stopped Learning

Amy Cooper, a Senior Planning Engineer, had been laid off for more than six months when she heard about National Able Network. Once she applied for and was accepted into the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program, Amy says, “What I liked about WIOA and National Able Network was the extra layer of accountability, when you do something through a program like this because someone else is invested, and they’re making sure you’re completing what you need to be doing.”
In addition to attending workshops to help spruce up her resume, Amy participated in job fairs and career coaching. Amy had eight years of experience as a Senior Planning Engineer, in addition to over eight years of experience in project management. However, Amy did not have the certifications that are frequently pursued in this industry.
While working with her career coach, Shawn McKenzie, on her resume and her overall career journey, she chose to focus her career on business analysis, in addition to dedicating her time to earning certifications. The exams for certification are no small feat. Shawn connected Amy with resources to help her succeed. Amy successfully completed her training and earned several credentials: Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, ScrumMaster, and Project Management Professional (PMP).
After all her hard work and dedication, Amy was hired as a Technical Business Analyst! Amy mentioned that her certifications, training, and the support she received from her coach and National Able Network were a definite help in obtaining her new job. Amy says, “Thank you for being another level of accountability, encouragement and providing suggestions for additional ways to study and learn.”
