Self-Improvement Month: 3 Easy Ways to Improve Your Skills and Abilities!
September 7, 2017 Training, Workforce 0

September is Self-Improvement Month!
Self-improvement is defined as: improvement of one’s status, mind, abilities, etc. by one’s own efforts. As a job seeker, self-improvement is a good way to develop your personal and professional skills and prepare you to enter the workforce!
In honor of this observance, we’ve listed three easy ways to improve yourself during your job search!
- Read, read and read some more. Read about everything and anything that interests you! Whether you are drawn to learning more about the latest developments in your industry, or about the life of your own personal role model – taking the time to read broadens your perspective personally and professionally. For the most popular books recommended by career coaches, visit this link.
- Sharpen your skills. Take a class, work on a new personal project, volunteer…the possibilities are endless. Just put your skills to use! Many classes are offered online at no-cost (check out Coursera and edX), or if you prefer to meet face to face, reach out to your local library. Keeping your skills sharp through extracurricular activities during your job search shows prospective employers that you are hard-working and passionate.
- Try something new. Learn a new language, take a different path home, attend a meeting that you’re interested in – just try something different! Research shows that trying something new actually has physical benefits and increases inspiration – which are absolute essentials during the job hunt. (Pro-tip: Add your new skills to your resume! Employers appreciate individuals who take the initiative to learn new things!)
If you’re a job seeker, try to incorporate one of these actions this month, and see if it makes a difference in your overall mood, perspective and job search outcomes.
