“Tenacious” Job Seeker Returns to Her Chosen Industry!
December 19, 2016 Non-profit, Training, Workforce 0

After being laid off from her job as a real estate closing coordinator, Marcia Green was very motivated to get back to work quickly because she is the primary caregiver of her disabled husband: “[A job search] can be very scary when people are obligated to you. It can be tiring, and as you get older it gets more challenging, you have to find new strategies and set new expectations,” said Marcia. Marcia’s new strategy involved improving her job search skills: “I was looking to basically reinvent myself.”
To support her new job search strategy, Marcia came to National Able Network (Able), enrolled in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and began working with Career Coach, Rocio Montoya. Rocio helped her update her resume and locate job fair information and other resources. Marcia also joined a Job Search Work Team, a group of fellow job seekers who discuss

their job search progress with one another. Marcia valued working with fellow Able clients and connecting through their similar situations. Marcia worked with her team, discussing everything from interview practice questions and resume updates to the frustrations that they felt while looking for work: “Getting together with the Job Search Work Team helped me stay focused.”
Thanks to her focus and her updated skills, Marcia heard about a real estate job opportunity from a former coworker: “I saw an opportunity and threw my hat in the ring.” Her initiative paid off and she is now an administrative assistant for a busy real estate company!
Marcia is back in the industry she loves and there’s never a dull moment, “I wear a lot of different hats, you name it, it’s all filtered through me.” Marcia says she has “nothing but kudos and applause” for Able and the hardworking staff, and encourages other job seekers to “be flexible….be tenacious, and be patient.”
Congratulations Marcia!
