‘Tis the Season to Job Search: 3 Ways to Dash Through Your Job Search This Holiday Season!
December 7, 2016 Non-profit, Training, Workforce 0

Looking for a new job while trying to handle the holidays can be daunting. However, as nerve-wracking as it seems, a December job search has the potential to pay off! Believe it or not, the holiday season is said to be the best time to ramp up a job search. Here are National Able Network’s favorite reasons to revise those resumes while you wait for the holiday cookies to finish baking:
There is less competition:
If you feel like your excellent application keeps getting lost in the shuffle, then the holiday season is the time to get out there. You have a full six-months until the busiest time of year for job searches, when most college graduates hit the job market in May and June. Plus, many job seekers decide to put their searches on the back burner this time of year and focus on the holidays. Tempting as it may be to wait, applications that are received during the holiday season carry a lot of weight; to many recruiters and hiring managers, a holiday job application is a statement that this job seeker is serious about joining a new team.
The atmosphere is more welcoming:
Joy to the job seeker! The holidays are awash of good cheer, parties, and gift exchanges. This means that company morale gets a serious boost, and so does company hiring. It’s easier for new employees to join the ranks and start building relationships with the company veterans when there are opportunities for people to mix, something companies take advantage. During the holidays, a new employee can meet their entire team in a few hours at the annual holiday mixer, something that could take days or even weeks any other time of year.
There are more opportunities for networking:
Holiday job seekers have a big opportunity in the form of the holiday party. Whether attending a corporate event as a plus-one, or an informal get-together with old friends, job seekers that actively participate at holiday parties can have a serious edge; they can learn about company culture from actual employees and even hear about job openings before they’ve been posted. If your stack of holiday invites is looking thin this season, then start looking for holiday networking events in the area, you may be surprised by how many there are. Some companies even host mixers to entice job seekers. So brush up those networking skills (keep an eye out next week for Able’s next holiday blog post about networking tips). And if you receive a holiday invite, RSVP yes!
