Technician “Gets Life Back” on the Rails
November 21, 2016 Non-profit, Training, Workforce 0

After working in the auto industry for more than a decade, Jason Ratcliff decided to transition to work in the railroad industry. He successfully found work he enjoyed as a truck technician, but after a year in his new field personal obstacles forced him to leave his job in the rail industry, leaving him frustrated and struggling to restart his career.
Jason came to National Able Network seeking job training to help him get to work as a truck driver. He began working with Career Coach Cheryl Travis, who helped him enroll in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program and attend training to get his Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Jason appreciated Cheryl’s hands-on work with him: “[She] was optimistic about my job prospects and future, she had a real connection with me.”
Jason said he worked hard to get his CDL and brush up his job search skills, and Cheryl was there to offer advice and encouragement. Jason successfully completed his training and received his CDL. Jason was seeking new employment, but was surprised when he was contacted by his previous employer. They asked him to return to his old job on the rails, and thanks to his CDL license they offered him a significant raise! Jason is now back at work as a truck technician in the rail industry, and is happy to be doing work that he loves.
When asked what advice he had for other job seekers, he said “Never get discouraged, be optimistic and stay refreshed.” Jason was so grateful for Cheryl’s help and confidence in his abilities, and the assistance he received at National Able Network: “National Able Network helped me get my life back.”
Congratulations Jason!
