National Able Network Launches Digital Literacy Program for Older Workers!
September 23, 2016 Non-profit, Senior Services, Training, Workforce 3

National Able Network recently launched digital literacy training for older workers in southern Maine to increase their computer skills and find employment!
This program uses a blended learning approach which includes instructor-led and classroom-based training, peer-to-peer mentoring, e-learning, and self-directed study. Its curriculum focuses on:
- computer basics
- internet basics
- productivity programs
- computer security
- digital lifestyles
The launch of this training includes seven Senior Community Service Employment Program participants at Able that are looking to increase their skills to find fulfilling employment. Paul Chessman, one of the seven participants of this training, said that additional computer skills would help him become more marketable for various employment opportunities. “At my current assignment, I do maintenance work. Since I don’t have computer skills, I can’t get out of that line of work.” Just after one week of training, Paul had already seen the improvement in his skills! “I am grateful for the amount of support. I don’t feel intimated by stuff I haven’t seen before,” said Paul.
We are continuing to measuring the success of this program throughout the coming weeks, but it is the courage, levels of confidence, and empowerment among participants that is the most rewarding measure of success!
