New Communications Coordinator is Climbing Her Way to the Top!
September 16, 2016 Non-profit, Workforce 0

My name is Emily Mason and I’m the new Communications Coordinator for National Able Network (Able)! My job has a lot of different components, but for the most part I research anything and everything that our marketing department might need, help find interesting content for Able’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) and our amazing blog, and create blog posts, social media campaigns, and…really anything else that Able could possibly need.
I’m a creative person at heart; I’ve filled pages and pages of journals and notebooks with my writing, some of it good, some…not so much. I also have a strong desire to help people. For a long time, I’ve felt my dream job would allow me to be more inventive while making the world a better place in some way. I think I’ve found that with Able.
I spent the better part of five years working in customer service, but decided to leave and pursue a career that allowed me to use my skills as a writer. I’ve been writing professionally and for my own pleasure for the last seven years, including newspaper articles, blogs, and content for websites of all shapes and sizes. My greatest joy is finding ways to display information and media in ways that are eye-catching and just a bit unconventional. My goal is always to draw people in and get them engaged, whether it’s through creative layouts, interesting stories, or a good joke.
So far Able has been a fun and welcoming work environment. Even though I hit the ground running at break-neck speed, it’s been a real pleasure to do something interesting for a team that works hard at work worth doing. When I’m not here, I’m either off rock climbing (which is hilarious since I’m afraid of heights!) or sitting at home, parsing out complex TV and movie plot lines. I love having these two rather conflicting hobbies because one challenges me to face my fears, while the other helps me to improve my powers of observation (I bet you can’t guess which is which!). I’m sure I will find great use for these skills in my time with Able!
