As part of Older Americans Month, we are showcasing successful National Able Network Senior Services clients throughout May! In our latest blog post, we feature our client Sharon Smith who came to Able to start her career path and, in turn, helped other clients start their career paths!

When Sharon came to Able, her ultimate goal was to find a career and obtain self-sufficiency. She was enrolled in Able’s Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) and began training as a Case Aide at the workNet DuPage Center in Lisle, Ill. As a Case Aide, Sharon worked with Able Case Manager, Lourdes Holguin assisting fellow SCSEP participants who were starting their career paths. By doing this, Sharon was able share her personal experience with others in the program. While working as a Case Aide, Sharon learned valuable case management, intake, and recruitment skills.

After training at the workNet DuPage Center, Sharon applied for a full-time position as an Intake Specialist. She interviewed and was offered the position shortly after! Sharon is grateful for the opportunity that Able has given her. “I consider myself to have greatly benefitted from this program. My income was strained and my job search was bleak and SCSEP gave me the tools that I needed to move forward in raising my income and Job Readiness Training classes taught me how to job search in a professional manner for gainful employment. I was trained in all aspects and being a case aide prepared me to apply and become a full-time employee. I could not be more happy and grateful for the experience! A personal thank you to Pat Wilkins, Jenna Holzberg and Lulu Holguin.”
