IT Career Lab: “No Student Left Behind”
April 29, 2016 IT Career Lab, Training, Workforce 0

Returning to school can be a daunting task. For the students who enroll in IT Career Lab, they are tasked with learning a great deal of material in a short amount of time. They’re working to not only to complete the designated curriculum, but also to earn certifications and work on career readiness skills to reenter the workforce.
At the beginning of each new class, we encourage the students to form study groups; since participants typically come to us with a wide variety of IT experience and backgrounds and can share information, expertise and experiences. However, I have never witnessed the level of camaraderie and cohesiveness displayed by the students of our IT Career Lab class that began this past December. The class motto of “No Student Left Behind” provided the entire class with a feeling of empowerment and togetherness throughout their training journey.
This group of students devised a schedule of meetings after class to review lessons for the day, ask each other questions, and share their computer screens to review information. They would also send questions to their instructor, and reviewed questions together in the next class session. For those unable to attend the group sessions in the evenings, some of the students would remain after class to assist these classmates with problems they were having in mastering the material. The students would also hold review sessions with their instructor during class time and work together to ensure that all questions were answered for everyone prior to each certification exam.
Since its inception, IT Career Lab has completed 35 classes. This was the first time I’ve witnessed such care and concern by the students for their fellow classmates. I was extremely impressed with the dedication and steadfastness of our December class, as their actions truly exemplified many of National Able Network‘s core values in displaying integrity, compassion, innovation and service to others. It’s a joy to witness the success of each person who completes the program and moves forward in reaching their respective career goals.
Please join me in congratulating IT Career Lab’s December class! Good luck to you all – I know you will do great things!
