National Able Network Celebrates #GivingTuesday

A large part of my job as the Senior Communications Specialist at National Able Network is utilizing social media to connect with clients, potential clients, supporters, and other stakeholders. Social media is a great low-cost option to get individuals involved in a cause on a global scale. And while oftentimes social media is used for watching cat videos, it is also being used to promote positive changes, awareness, and generosity – #GivingTuesday is a great example of that.
#GivingTuesday was started by New York City’s 92nd Street Y in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. It began as a way to encourage individuals to donate to local communities, nonprofit organizations, and small businesses. It comprises of more than 30,000 partners in 68 countries around the world.
Throughout the last four years, there was an estimated 470 percent increase in online donations on #GivingTuesday. One of the main reasons behind its growing popularity is due in large part to social media and the use of hashtags (#). There has been a total of 32.7 million Twitter impressions and more than 750,000 hashtags created in honor of #GivingTuesday throughout the last four years. Using social media and hashtags has grown #GivingTuesday from simply an idea to a global phenomenon.
Today, we ask that you generously donate to a deserving organization of your choice, and if that is Able – we are grateful.
