National Able Network’s Job Search Work Teams
November 25, 2015 Training, Workforce 0

Last year, National Able Network began implementing Job Search Work Teams, which were created by employment services expert, Orville Pierson. A Job Search Work Team is a group of 6 to 12 job hunters that meet up to two hours each week with a focus on job search effectiveness. Each member gives a brief report on their progress using a tracking system and also discusses issues and/or progress that has occurred during the week. By doing this, members maintain accountability and create a healthy supportive environment which keeps members motivated throughout the job search process.
Members increase their job search intensity as much as 10 times by building a network of peers, family members and former co-workers. National Able Network’s Career Coaches help facilitate highly-effective Job Search Work Teams by bringing together job seekers who want to supercharge their job searches. Members keep each other focused on key task, as well as job-hunting issues, options, and solutions which are actively discussed.
Knowing that jobseekers who search alone only spend 40 minutes per day looking for work makes these support groups crucial as part of the job search process. The Job Search Work Teams are composed of clients from a diverse background of industries such as IT, Manufacturing, Education, and Social Service among others, which proves that the job search process is equal among job seekers. Job Search Work Team members are also encouraged to attend National Able Network’s Job Readiness Training workshops to increase members’ chances of success.
National Able Network has been offering Job Search Work Teams to clients since Sept. 2014. After more than a year, Job Search Work Teams have proven very successful! This past October at our Chicago Heights location at Prairie State College, we had four clients find fulfilling careers in Education, Human Resources, and Information Technology.
