The Senior Community Service Employment Program, also known as SCSEP, celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year, yet it still remains one of the government’s best kept secrets!

SCSEP is the only federally funded program specifically dedicated to serving unemployed, low-income seniors throughout the country! This program, funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, provides seniors with part-time, paid community service positions and work-based training at local nonprofits.

National Able Network (Able) was founded in Chicago nearly 40 years ago as an advocacy organization dedicated to helping older workers. Today, with help from SCSEP, Able currently serves 1,466 seniors throughout the nation in Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. In 2015, Able’s senior participants provided upwards of 800,000 working hours at local organizations in their communities through SCSEP.
