Trade Adjustment Assistance Program Reauthorized, Workers to continue to receive career help

After working for 11 years as a Data Entry Specialist, George lost his job during mass lay-offs at his company. Although he was unemployed, this layoff presented George with many new opportunities that would allow him to change his direction in life because of the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program. TAA is a program that helps workers whose jobs were eliminated due to foreign trade – in other words, the jobs that were lost have been off-shored.
George was eligible for re-training in a new occupation, extended unemployment insurance benefits, relocation assistance, a wage subsidy of up to 50 percent and an out-of-area job search allowance. Through TAA, George began a Master’s in Occupational Therapy at Chicago State University. He found the program to be challenging but fulfilling in the sense that he was able to pursue a career that he always wanted – to become an Occupational Therapist.
George attended class full-time and maintained excellent grades! He excelled in his program and successfully graduated in May 2015. George obtained his Master’s Degree and has a pending job offer from a local healthcare provider!
Thanks to TAA, George was able to turn a bad situation into a life-changing opportunity to enhance his education and find his dream career! TAA was reauthorized in June 2015 and will continue helping dislocated workers throughout the nation!
National Able Network is the sole provider for TAA in Chicago and Southern Cook County. If you were recently laid-off, click here to see if your company qualifies for TAA. For more information, call 855-994-8300 or visit our website, here.
