Kick-Off to National Employ Older Workers Week!
September 21, 2015 Senior Services, Workforce 0

Today marks the beginning of National Employ Older Workers Week, a time in which we recognize the value that older workers bring to the workforce! National Able Network (Able) was founded in Chicago in 1977 to help address the unique barriers that individuals over the age of 55 face when entering or advancing in the workforce. Nearly four decades later, Able continues to spotlight the benefits of hiring seniors and now offers Senior Services to older workers in five states: Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.
Looking ahead, the U.S. Department of Labor estimates that by 2020, 25 percent of the workforce will be people ages 55 and older, and more than 7 percent of the workforce will be ages 65 and older!
To help kick-off the first day of National Employ Older Workers Week, we recently asked our Senior Services staff: “What value do older workers bring to the workplace?” Here are some of their insights:
“Older workers offer a work-history and maturity that can be a valuable and unique asset to an organization.”
“Experience. Experience. Experience.”
“DEDICATION. Older workers have gained a myriad of experience, and they understand the work ethic. Older workers want to put this knowledge of working to great use and commit to a job.”
“Older Workers are responsible, experienced, and want to work! Just because we are 55 or older does not mean that we are not capable of doing a great job and can still put in many years of service.”
“Older Workers are more settled…and know what they want in life.”
“Life and employment experience of older workers contribute a treasure chest of knowledge.”
Stay tuned as we will be highlighting a few of our Senior Services clients throughout this week!
