Senior Ambassador to Peers: “Embrace Change as an Opportunity to Grow”
August 3, 2015 Senior Services, Training, Workforce 0

Dolores Cole came to National Able Network in search of enhancing her technology knowledge in the Seniors Having Information for Tomorrow program in 2012. After successfully completing the program, Dolores was enrolled in the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) and began training as a Senior Ambassador. As a Senior Ambassador, Dolores became an advocate for her fellow seniors while also assisting them in understanding their legal rights regarding the Affordable Care Act. Dolores also participated in Job Readiness Training workshops while enrolled in SCSEP, which helped her reacclimate to the workforce through resume assistance, interview preparation, and more!
In June 2014, Dolores was placed at LAF where she continued providing outreach and education to seniors regarding their legal rights and how to prevent elder abuse. Almost a year after being placed at LAF, a position became available for a Community Outreach Coordinator – Dolores applied and was hired!
Adela Carlin, Director of Community Engagement at LAF, said Dolores brought knowledge and experience to her position: “Dolores came to LAF with a great deal of experience helping community members identify issues and resources available in their own community. In addition, Dolores used her 20 years of experience in management and customer service to develop a strategy and innovative approach to sharing information with Seniors.”
Through her past experience and recent experience as a Senior Ambassador, Dolores became an expert in senior outreach and carved a niche for herself at LAF!
For her fellow mature job seekers, Dolores offered some sage advice: “Believe that you have something to contribute to an organization. Embrace change as an opportunity to grow. Reinvent yourself.”
Well done, Dolores!
