Leo Pettyjohn worked unloading freights, stocking, and cleaning at a local retailer for more than a decade. However, Leo unfortunately found himself unemployed in his early 60s and was not financially able to retire. He came to National Able Network and enrolled in the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) in the hope of reentering the workforce as a mature worker. While enrolled, Leo worked for both St. Ann’s Medical Clinic in Terre Haute, Ind. and the YMCA in Wabash, Ind. to help build his skills in an office environment. Leo also attended Job Readiness Training workshops to enhance his skills and assist him in editing his resume and cover letter, preparing for interviews, and improving his computer literacy.
With his new and improved skill set, Leo was hired as a Member Representative by the YMCA of Vigo County in Terre Haute! Leo will be working the front desk and also helping out in the Child Watch area.
Leo is extremely grateful for the services provided by National Able Network. “I loved being part of the program. It helped me financially and the people involved in SCSEP are great. The program has been good for me,” said Leo.
Congratulations on your new career!
