Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
January 14, 2015 Training, Uncategorized, Workforce 0

The Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday celebrates the life and legacy of a man who sowed the seeds of hope and healing in America. He dreamed of a vibrant, multiracial nation united in justice, peace, and reconciliation.
As we reflect on Dr. King, what he fought for, and what many others continue to fight for, we know that although the struggle is far from over, a step in the right direction is being cognizant of the fact that we all have gifts, strengths, and contributions to make for the greater good.
Most people are familiar with Dr. King’s famous ‘March on Washington.’ However, many people may not know that the march was officially named, ‘March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.’ Much of Dr. King’s writings include the theme of job creation and job equality. Dr. King had a major effect, socially and economically, on the future of policy change and jobs for all Americans.
As someone who works in the Workforce Development industry, I continue to encounter people from all walks of life, backgrounds, and experience, who have so much to give to others, including future employers. We achieve so much more when we set aside perceived differences and obstacles and open ourselves up to others who are different from us and consciously choose to work together to meet shared goals.
Keep this in mind as you go about your days, today and the rest of your life. Peace be with you.
