Thomas Dixon pursued higher education after leaving the military in hopes of avoiding unemployment, like many of his Veteran peers. Unfortunately, Thomas couldn’t avoid it.

He worked as a Senior Recruiter for a major bank for over a year before being laid off. As a 10 year U.S. Army Veteran with a Master’s Degree in Finance and Accounting, Thomas didn’t expect to be out of work for very long, but he found it difficult to find employment.

He came to National Able Network and began working with Able’s Veterans Forward program to access veteran-exclusive job leads and Job Readiness Training to prepare him for upcoming job interviews. In March 2014, Veterans Career Coach Michelle Malone alerted Thomas of a Job Readiness Training and Hiring Event hosted by Veterans Forward at Malcolm X College. It was there that Thomas met with recruiters from BMO Harris Bank and was offered a chance to interview for a logistics position with the company. Just a few weeks later, Thomas was hired full-time!

Thomas credits the Veterans Forward program for giving him the opportunity to find a stable career. “They were very instrumental in helping me get a job. I had a great experience. The Veterans Forward program is very conscientious of Veteran’s needs.”

Congratulations, Thomas!
