Anthony Haskins is an IT Career Lab student and a client of National Able Network. He has recently earned his CompTIA Network+ certification and is in the process of earning his Cisco Certified Entry Networking Associate (CCENT) certification.
Anthony is a great writer who has had his poetry published and is in the process of authoring his own book! Anthony graciously agreed to tell us his story of being unemployed and his journey to find a career in Information Technology. Read more about Anthony’s story below…
“My name is Anthony Haskins and I am a 40-something year old Chicago native. I am a U.S. Army Veteran and I served with the 933rd Military Police Company out of Chicago while also serving in Desert Shield/Storm. I spent most of that time in Stuttgart, Germany and fell in love with the people and the culture of Deutschland. I am the very fortunate father of two wonderful children. I am a published author of poetry and I actually just completed a book that I am in the process of self-publishing. I won’t say too much about the book here, but writing a book has been one of my major goals for some time.
I was fortunate enough to find out about IT Career Lab not long after being laid off from the U.S. Postal Service in 2013. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Computer Networking Systems that I earned in 2001. The skills I’ve obtained while pursuing my degree have since become outdated, which contributed to my unemployment.
I searched several different programs and settled on IT Career Lab because they offered exactly the sort of training that I needed. I wanted to acquire Cisco Academy training and I did not have the time or money to waste. I needed an accelerated program that was affordable for me. Thanks to the Workforce Investment Act, I don’t have to worry about accruing the debt that is usually associated with traditional educational programs. I am also thankful that IT Career Lab allows me to work with the latest technology.
From the time I sat down for an information session at IT Career Lab I was impressed by how courteous and knowledgeable the staff were. I am getting much more support than I ever anticipated. I am learning much more than I anticipated. With the education I am receiving from IT Career Lab, I am confident that I will make an awesome impact at whatever company that I am fortunate enough to work with.”
