Transitioning Veterans to Civilian Careers with Job Readiness Training
January 23, 2014 Training, Veterans Forward, Workforce 0

Everyone has an idea in their head when they hear the word Veteran. But the fact is that Veterans are incredibly diverse. Some Veterans have multiple degrees, some barely finished high school. Some Veterans spent 30 years in the service and never had a civilian job, others can’t legally purchase alcohol. Some Veterans have high tech, in-demand skills. Others aren’t sure how to translate their experience into a civilian career.
At Veterans Forward we embrace this diversity, but recognize one common element. Almost every Veteran faces the same hurdles when they transition from the military. Inevitably, Veterans struggle with their job search because in the military they never had to write a resume or interview for a job. So at Veterans Forward we offer a unique entry point to our programs: nationally recognized Job Readiness Training focused on these areas to help level the playing field for Veterans.
Our two-day Job Readiness Training covers job search strategy, translating military skills, networking, using social media, writing effective resumes, and interviewing. Participants have called it “the best kept secret in Chicago” and “very comprehensive and helpful.” On the second day, we invite a small group of targeted employers to meet with participants. This intimate setting helps facilitate job placement and gives Veterans the opportunity to practice their new skills.
Our next Veterans Job Readiness Training is on January 30-31. Click here to sign up.
