A big congratulations to Frances, Amber and Theresa, three of our female IT Career Lab students who have recently passed their CompTIA+ Networking and CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician) certification exams! Awesome job, ladies! We know a lot of hard work and long hours of studying went into receiving these certifications.
Women in technology has been a popular discussion lately due to the fact that more and more women have been entering the IT industry which has been primarily dominated by men.
Here are some facts regarding women in technology careers:
- 903,000 women are in computing occupations in the United States (US Department of Labor Statistics, 2011)
- In 2008, technical women earned an average salary of $70,370 (Dice.com, 2010)
- Of the 20 occupations with the highest median earnings for women, 5 are computing occupations: computer software engineers, computer and information systems managers, computer programmers, computer scientists and systems analysts, and network systems and data communications analysts. (U.S Department of Labor, 2010)
