SCSEP participant eligibility is determined by Federal Regulations and Department of Labor guidelines. Age SCSEP participants must be 55 years of age or older. There is no upper age limit. Residency SCSEP participants must be a legal resident of a state served by National Able Network (Illinois, Massachusetts, Maine, or New Hampshire). If you reside in a state not served by National Able Network, you may be eligible for SCSEP participation with another organization. A list of national SCSEP sponsors is available here. Income SCSEP participants must have a total income of no more than 125% of the federal poverty level. Sources of income considered for the purpose of determining eligibility include, but are not limited to, wages, income from owned property, Social Security benefits, interest and dividend income, etc. Not all income is counted in particular instances, e.g. in the case of disability. If you are interested in becoming a SCSEP trainee please contact your local program representative or go to your local One Stop facility
Your SCSEP office will schedule an appointment for you to complete an application. To assist in determining your eligibility, you should bring the following:
A SCSEP staff member will complete an application with you and answer any questions you might have about the program. After completing the application, you may be found ineligible, put on the wait list if there aren't current openings or accepted immediately into the program. Accepted participants will complete necessary paperwork and meet with a SCSEP program monitor to discuss your employment goals and barriers. You will then work as a team to formulate a plan to attain employment. All participants will be provided an orientation session that fully describes the program, its benefits and responsibilities. There will be plenty of time for questions. You will then be assigned a training site that is in line with the goals and objectives you've worked out with your SCSEP representative. Training sites must be either a not for profit agency or a government office by law. Every effort is made to find the right training site near your location. The overarching mission of SCSEP is to assist the mature population in finding gainful employment. Therefore, the most basic and the most important requirement for all SCSEP participants is a sincere desire to find employment. If you do not meet eligibility guidelines or if you are not interested in finding employment, SCSEP staff can refer you to other programs and/or benefits that may be of interest to you.
