Able Career Institute (ACI) offers classroom, on-line, and blended learning options to help students achieve their development and employment goals.  ACI’s primary objective is to assist unemployed and underemployed adults obtain and refine skills that will lead to a rewarding career. ACI’s flexible training can help prepare you for a career in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Services, Customer Service, Retail, Management, and other fields. And, if you qualify, we may be able to offer this training at NO COST to you.

Able Career Institute Courses

Every student is at a different crossroad in life when it comes to learning and employment. Our non-traditional approach to learning helps each student focus on what’s needed to succeed. ACI courses include:

 

Adult Basic Education (ABE)
Engage in basic skills training, to help develop and/or strengthen reading, writing, and mathematics skills and strengthen GED level.

 

GED Preparation (Available in English & Spanish)
Review core subjects of reading, writing, mathematics, social studies and science required to pass the General Educational Development (GED) test.

 

Basic Computer Skills Training/Computación Básica (se ofrece en español)
Build or refine keyboarding and overall personal computer savvy by beginning to delve into email, word processing, and Internet practices.

 

Career/Job Search
Create a suitable career plan based on personal interests, values, and skill level. Delve into the latest and most effective techniques and means to find a job in this competitive job market.


Professionalism/Interviewing Skills
Present skills, experience, and drive, to expertly match potential employers’ needs, through verbals and non-verbals (dress, manners, overall demeanor, etc.). Master the art of answering behavioral based questions by citing personal examples.


Resume Skills
Prepare a high-impact resume tailored to highlight qualifications and ability to meet employers’ needs, and help land an interview.
               
English as a Second Language (ESL)
Non-native English speakers improve their comfort and ability to read, write, and speak English.

 

Vocational English as a Second Language (ESL)
Non-native English speakers advance their use of English to fulfill work related responsibilities in the industry in which they work, or aspire to work.

 

Online Skills Learning
Computer based interactive courses provide a core curriculum grounded in basic PC software, work readiness, and customer service.

 

From there, you will progress to skill development opportunities based on your interests.  You’ll learn according to your schedule to prepare for careers and professional certifications in:

  • Business Office Professional
Career Development Workshops

Students may access a series of free 90-minute job readiness workshops. Workshops include:

Certifications & Accreditations

ACI has received certification through the US Department of Labor as an approved training provider in:

 

  • Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
  • Trade Adjustment Act (TAA)

 

ACI offers several levels of accreditations, including:

 

  • Internet and Computer Core Certification (IC3®)
  • Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)
  • Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS)
  • iCritical Thinking Certification
  • National Retail Foundation Management Certification
  • Vocational ESL (all levels)
  • Adult Basic Skills

ACI has received the Certificate of Approval to Operate a Private Business and Vocational School from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

Course Enrollment

Individuals who are interested in enrolling in any ACI course will:

1) Attend an orientation session; 

2) Complete ACI’s Application Form and Enrollment Agreement;

3) Meet with a case manager to discuss career goals and determine an appropriate program and course of action; and

4) Complete standardized assessment tests and interviews.

 

Able Career Institute Course Fees

If you are low income and/or are receiving unemployment benefits, you may be eligible to take advantage of our courses at NO COST through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), Trade Adjustment Assistance Act (TAA), or other government grant opportunities. Speak with your case manager to see if you qualify.
